Qui ou quoi vous a inspiré à devenir acteur et écrivain ? Avez-vous eu des mentors ou des figures marquantes dans votre parcours ?
Who or what inspired you to become an actor and a writer? Do you have mentors or people who have greatly influenced your career ?
Être artiste a toujours été quelque chose d’inné pour moi. La performance et le récit sont au cœur de mon identité. Le jeu et l’écriture ne sont pas des échappatoires, ce sont des moyens de comprendre la vie. Ils m’apportent clarté, vérité et profondeur. Ces formes d’expression ont un réel pouvoir : celui de guérir, de questionner et de toucher les autres. Ayant grandi dans les années 90, j’ai été plongé dans un âge d’or de la télévision et du cinéma. Les sitcoms classiques, les drames audacieux et les films intemporels ont façonné ma sensibilité bien avant que je puisse mettre des mots dessus. Being an artist has always felt innate to me. Performance and storytelling sit at the centre of who I am. Acting and writing are not things I do to escape life, they are how I understand it. They give me clarity, truth, and a way to process the world with honesty and depth. There is real power in those mediums, power to heal, to challenge, and to move people. Growing up as a 90s baby, I was immersed in a golden era of television and film. Classic sitcoms, bold dramas, and timeless movies filled my early years. Those stories stayed with me. They shaped my emotional intelligence, my sense of rhythm, and my understanding of character long before I had the language for it. When you are introduced to storytelling at that level, it never leaves you. It becomes part of your wiring. In terms of influence, I have drawn inspiration from artists who carried both excellence and purpose. Performers who did not simply entertain, but stood for something. Writers who told the truth even when it was uncomfortable. I have learned as much from watching greatness as I have from navigating my own lived experience. Every chapter, every room, every challenge has sharpened my voice. I do not see acting and writing as separate disciplines. They are extensions of the same calling. Both allow me to tell stories that matter, stories that reflect humanity with dignity and complexity. That is what continues to drive me. Not trends. Not noise. Truth, legacy, and the responsibility that comes with being heard.

How would you define your creative approach ?
Mon approche créative commence et se termine par la vérité. Vérité du moment, vérité de l’histoire et vérité du monde dans lequel l’œuvre s’inscrit. La créativité porte une responsabilité. My creative approach begins and ends with truth. Truth to the moment, truth to the story, and truth to the world the work is entering. I believe creativity carries responsibility. What we put into the world matters. It shapes perception, emotion, and culture, whether we acknowledge it or not. Integrity is non negotiable for me. If the work is not honest, it does not land. I study the greats with deep respect, not to imitate them, but to understand their discipline, their choices, and their courage. Then I push beyond that. Growth demands evolution. Sometimes that means reaching into your toolbox and leaning on craft, technique, and experience. Other times it means stripping everything back and approaching the work from an entirely new place. I trust instinct, but I honour preparation. I stay open, present, and willing to be challenged by the material. That balance allows the work to breathe. My aim is always to serve the story with depth and precision, while leaving space for something unexpected to emerge. That is where the real creative power lives.

You have training in performing arts and business administration. How do these two fields intersect in your career? Why did you choose these paths ?
Les arts du spectacle étaient une évidence. On ne peut réussir sans maîtriser son métier. Le MBA découle de la même logique : le monde fonctionne par le business, et le comprendre permet de mieux naviguer. Les deux m’ont permis d’avancer avec lucidité et stratégie.
Great questions the performing arts was inevitable for my professional growth you have to know and study your craft to be successful. My mba degree came from the same line of thought business is an area that affects our everyday life I think it is important to have some general insight and knowledge I have used both of these things to navigate my career path.

What influence did your youth in Ipswich and London have on your life ?

I never grew up in Ipswich it was northwest of london I was born in ipswich and have family there so I am deeply rooted but grow up in london. Like with any young man navigating through life I had my challenges but there was always a greater sense of self and purpose.

Your work spans film, television, and theatre. Is there one of these mediums you prefer ?

I think all mediums have different qualities that bring different things out of you as a performer. I love theatre it gives you craft as an actor but film and tv less is more. I want the next trajectory of my career to focus more on film snd tv projects.

I have been blessed to work with Mark and get to know him and his late wife Clare such a beautiful warm spirit. Mark has been great and I respect him as anartist in this industry and appreciate his work if anything I learnt about longevity and focus.

I been very blessed to have experience different life changing moments which im grateful so many I can pinpoint when you walk red carpets along Denzel Washington and he acknowledge you or you party with Chris Tucker all been priceless. My more recent highlight has been made a patron of go live theatre working closely with the organization to help bring change in the industry and inspire lives I do not take this lightly.

Comment choisissez-vous les rôles que vous interprétez ? Y a-t-il un personnage que vous avez trouvé particulièrement difficile à incarner ? Si oui, pourquoi ? Quel processus suivez-vous pour entrer dans un personnage ?
Je ne pense pas que les acteurs choisissent vraiment des rôles de la manière dont les gens l’imaginent. Si c’était le cas, beaucoup plus d’entre nous travailleraient. La réalité est plus complexe et plus humiliante que cela. Ce sur quoi j’ai le contrôle, c’est l’intention. Je suis attiré par des personnages qui m’apportent quelque chose en tant qu’être humain, des rôles qui élargissent ma compréhension du monde et de moi-même. Je suis particulièrement fasciné par les voix ignorées, les histoires qui se situent à la périphérie et qui méritent un espace, une dignité et une vérité. Ces histoires comptent. I do not think actors truly choose roles in the way people imagine. If that were the case, far more of us would be working. The reality is more complex and more humbling than that. What I do have control over is intention. I am drawn to characters that teach me something as a human being, roles that stretch my understanding of the world and of myself. I am especially compelled by unheard voices, stories that sit at the edges and deserve space, dignity and truth. Those stories matter. They shape culture. They move people. When I step into a character, I do it with responsibility. I listen deeply. I research, I observe, I sit with the silence of who they are and why they exist. I am not interested in performance for its own sake. I am interested in service. As an artist, I believe I carry a responsibility to reflect humanity honestly, not comfortably. If a role unsettles me, challenges me or asks something difficult of me, I usually know I am on the right path. That is where the real work lives.

What was your goal in creating the documentary “My Name Is Ricardo P Lloyd”?
L’objectif était de susciter une réflexion et un changement. En tant que jeune acteur noir au Royaume-Uni, je faisais face à des obstacles systémiques. Le documentaire a permis de donner une voix à ces réalités. L’accueil du public a été profondément encourageant. Il a confirmé que ces conversations sont nécessaires. Aujourd’hui, je poursuis mon travail artistique avec équilibre et clarté.

How did you feel about the audience’s reaction to this documentary ? Do you have other projects of this kind planned ?
When I set out to make My Name Is Ricardo P. Lloyd, the intention was always to spark thought and invite change within the industry. As a young Black actor working in the UK, I was navigating challenges that were deeply systematic and, at times, difficult to articulate. Issues around casting, the unspoken dynamics behind the scenes, and simply moving through professional spaces as a working actor. It was a lot to carry, and it became clear that these experiences were not isolated to me. I felt a responsibility to speak up, not just for myself, but for others who did not feel able or safe to do so. The documentary was my way of addressing wider complications within the industry and giving voice to experiences that often go unheard. The audience response was incredibly affirming. It was received well by the media and by those who engaged with it, and I am grateful for the impact it made in 2022. That told me the conversation mattered. That said, there is still work to be done. Change does not happen overnight, and many of the issues remain. At the same time, I have made a conscious decision as an artist to now focus fully on being the best artist I can be. I understand that I carry a voice and a platform, and I will never stop speaking up when it matters. But I am also clear that I am an artist first. I want to create, to grow, and to move forward with balance, intention, and longevity.
Comment votre expérience influence-t-elle votre écriture ?
How does your experience influence your writing? Is writing your passion ?
Jouer a toujours été mon premier amour ; cela a toujours été clair pour moi. Cependant, l’écriture fait également partie intégrante de mon identité depuis longtemps. J’ai commencé à écrire tôt, d’abord des poèmes, des idées et des fragments de pensée. L’écriture n’a jamais été séparée de ma créativité ; elle s’est simplement manifestée sous différentes formes. Actuellement, je suis activement engagé dans l’écriture et le développement de projets, et le public commencera bientôt à découvrir cet aspect de mon travail.

Acting is my first love. That has always been clear for me. Writing has been part of who I am for a long time, though. I started writing early, poems at first, ideas, fragments of thought. It was never separate from my creativity, it just expressed itself differently. Right now, I am actively writing and developing projects, and people will start to see more of that side of my work. For me, writing is about voice. It is about telling authentic stories and perspectives that need to be heard and seen. That matters to me, not just as an artist, but as a human being. While acting will always come first, I value writing deeply. It gives you the ability to create your own narratives, to shape stories rather than wait for them to arrive. That sense of ownership is important, especially in an industry where work is not always consistent. So writing supports my acting, strengthens my voice, and allows me to keep moving forward creatively with intention and purpose.

What recurring themes do you explore, and why ?

Je souhaite toujours accorder à ces histoires le temps, le poids et le respect qu’elles méritent.
So far, the themes I have explored in my writing centre around diversity, inclusion, and giving space to voices that have often gone unheard. Through my work, I have tried to speak on subjects where people feel overlooked or silenced, using writing as a way to advocate, to inspire, and to create visibility. That has been a consistent thread in what I have written and what has been published so far. I never stop sharing my point of view, because I understand the responsibility that comes with being an artist and a public figure. I take that seriously. I always want to give those stories the time, weight, and respect they deserve.
Pourquoi l’inclusion et la santé mentale sont-elles si importantes pour vous ?
Why is advocacy for inclusion and mental health so important to you ?
La promotion de la santé mentale et de l’inclusion me tient particulièrement à cœur, car tant de personnes traversent la vie en se sentant invisibles, sous-estimées ou négligées. Des individus qui se situent en marge, souvent perçus comme des outsiders, et je m’identifie à cela à plusieurs niveaux. Je comprends ce que signifie se trouver dans des moments où l’on se sent accablé, où les circonstances pèsent lourdement et où il est difficile de discerner un chemin à suivre. Ces expériences laissent une empreinte durable en nous et influencent notre perception des autres.
C’est pourquoi, lorsque j’ai la chance de disposer d’une plateforme, d’une crédibilité et d’une visibilité, je ressens une profonde responsabilité de les utiliser pour soutenir autrui. Advocacy for mental health and inclusion matters deeply to me because there are so many people who move through life feeling unseen, undervalued, or overlooked. People who feel like they are on the margins, like underdogs, and I resonate with that on many levels. I understand what it is like to be in places where you feel low, where circumstances feel heavy, and where it is hard to see a way forward. Those experiences stay with you. They shape how you see others. Because of that, if I have a platform, credibility, and visibility, then I feel a responsibility to use it to uplift others. Not to speak over anyone, but to stand alongside them and create space. I want people to know that their lives have meaning and purpose. If I can offer hope, or point someone towards their own strength, or towards God, then that matters. Not because I see myself as anything special, but because sometimes people need a reminder that light exists, even when they cannot see it themselves. That is something I have always stood for, and it continues to guide how I move as an artist and as a human being.

Avez-vous une passion dans un autre domaine ?
Do you have a passion in a different field ?
C’est une excellente question, et pour être honnête, rien de précis ne me vient à l’esprit. Mon inspiration provient de la vie elle-même, qui peut surgir de n’importe où. Que je sois à une course de chevaux, en train d’assister à un spectacle, déambulant dans un espace ou en train d’expérimenter une œuvre d’art, l’inspiration se présente à des moments inattendus, et je reste réceptif à cela.
Si je suis tout à fait sincère, ma passion principale réside dans l’ambition de devenir le meilleur être humain possible, en utilisant ma plateforme avec intention, et en permettant à mon art de susciter réflexion et changement là où cela peut se faire. C’est dans cette quête que je me sens le plus en harmonie.
Lorsqu’on est artiste, il y a une intensité particulière qui encadre cette existence. Ce que l’on crée commence à nourrir chaque aspect de notre vie. Cela façonne notre perception du monde, notre manière de nous y déplacer et notre façon d’interagir avec autrui. Par conséquent, il peut être difficile de ranger la passion dans des catégories distinctes. Je suis encore en train de me familiariser avec certains de ces aspects, et j’accepte pleinement ce processus.
Ce que je sais, en revanche, c’est que la vie est précieuse. Vivre avec authenticité, rester présent et être ouvert à la croissance revêt une importance bien plus grande que de forcer des réponses. C’est une conviction à laquelle je m’accroche.
That is a good question, and honestly, there is nothing specific that comes to mind. I take inspiration from life itself. It can come from anywhere.
I could be at a horse race, watching a show, walking through a space, or experiencing art. Inspiration shows up in different moments, and I stay open to that. If I am being truthful, my main passion is becoming the best human being I can be, using my platform with intention, and allowing my artistry to spark thought and change where it can.
That is where I feel most aligned. When you are an artist, there is a certain intensity to it. What you do starts to feed into every part of your life. It shapes how you see the world, how you move through it, and how you respond to people. Because of that, it can be hard to separate passion into neat categories. I am still figuring some of that out, and I am comfortable with that process. What I do know is this.
Life is precious. Living truthfully, staying present, and remaining open to growth matters more than forcing answers. That is something I hold onto.
Comment maintenez-vous l’équilibre entre vie personnelle et professionnelle ?
How do you manage to maintain a balance between your professional and personal life ?
Maintenir un équilibre entre ma vie professionnelle et personnelle a indéniablement été un parcours. Ce n’a pas toujours été facile. En tant que figure publique, il arrive souvent que les gens forment des opinions à notre sujet et pensent nous connaître simplement parce que nous sommes visibles. Cela peut brouiller les frontières si l’on n’y prend pas garde. Au fil du temps, j’ai appris à être beaucoup plus intentionnel dans la protection de ce qui m’importe, tant sur le plan personnel que professionnel. J’ai réalisé combien il était crucial de préserver certaines facettes de soi pour soi-même : vos proches, vos instants privés, vos passions en dehors de l’industrie. Ces éléments vous ancrent, surtout lorsque tant de votre existence se déroule sous le regard du public. Aujourd’hui, je m’efforce de consacrer du temps à ces aspects. Non pas comme une pensée accessoire, mais comme une nécessité. Car si l’on ne prend pas soin de soi, mentalement et émotionnellement, la qualité du travail en pâtit également. Pour moi, l’équilibre repose sur l’intention. Savoir quand apparaître publiquement et quand se retirer pour être présent dans sa propre vie.
Maintaining a balance between my professional and personal life has definitely been a journey. It has not always been easy. When you are a public figure, people often form opinions about you and feel they know you simply because you are visible. That can blur boundaries if you are not careful. Over time, I have become much more intentional about protecting what matters to me, both personally and professionally. I have learned how important it is to hold certain parts of yourself back for yourself. Your loved ones, your private moments, your interests outside of the industry. Those things ground you, especially when so much of your life exists in the public eye. Now, I make a conscious effort to invest time in those areas. Not as an afterthought, but as something essential. Because if you do not look after yourself, mentally and emotionally, the work suffers too. Balance, for me, is about intention. Knowing when to show up publicly, and knowing when to step back and be present in your own life.

What do you do during your holidays ?
Durant mes vacances, je m’efforce d’accorder du temps de qualité aux personnes qui me sont les plus chères. Cela signifie généralement être présent pour ma nièce et mon neveu. Ils me sont infiniment précieux, et je déploie un réel effort pour participer à leur vie et simplement être leur oncle. Ces moments ont une véritable importance. During my holidays, I try to spend quality time with the people who are closest to me. That usually means being present with my niece and nephew. They are incredibly precious to me, and I make a real effort to be part of their lives and to simply be their uncle. Those moments matter. I do not really see these things as dreams. For me, it is more about purpose. I have always been inspired by figures like Tupac, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Sidney Poitier, and Denzel Washington. Not just because of their success, but because of the impact they had. They were artists who shifted culture, who stood for something, and who left a legacy that outlived the moment. That is the level I am focused on. To be a consistently working actor across film, television, and stage. To tell meaningful stories. To inspire, to challenge, and to contribute something lasting. What I want is more work. A stronger body of work. More projects that matter. Deeper relationships and partnerships built on respect and alignment. Growth across every area of my life. Of course, success brings comfort and financial stability, and that is welcome. But that is not what drives me. What drives me is purpose. Doing work I believe in, work I love, and work I am meant to do. I do not believe in fighting for space. I believe in earning your place by being true, committed, and excellent at what you do.
